ABOUT ABOUT

"Under Contractions" is Tal Gur's 3rd album as a leader. The process that led to record the album started when there was a 12 note motif, surrounded by a heavy cloud of zero inspiration. Tal decided to start paving a new  path, seeking a muse and inspiration. It required a process of breaking apart the music to its elements of time, melody and harmony, and carefully putting it back together by using modern writing technics and improvisation. In addition, Tal used his clinical experience as a music therapist, and carefully reconstructed in music meaningful events in his life such as the birth of his first child, alongside commenting on war situation in his home country, Israel.

The group will play the piece as a whole, alongside new and old compositions by Tal Gur.

"Progressive jazz which touches on global tumult and individual emotionalism." Doug Simpson, Audiophile Audition magazine

"Gur's work—alternately focused and free, specific and vague, and sure and indecisive—is a mirror into his mind and emotional state(s). Actually, it's really a look at the opposing emotions that we all wrestle with." Dan Bilawsky, All About Jazz Magazine.

This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
