ABOUT ABOUT

Brooklyn Conservatory of Music is proud to present The Fat Afro Latin Jazz Cats in a celebration National Hispanic Heritage Month.

The Fat Afro Latin Jazz Cats is the pre-professional youth orchestra of the nonprofit Afro Latin Jazz Alliance (ALJA). Now beginning its fifth year, this New York City all-star youth big band is under the direction of Arturo O’Farrill, Jim Seeley, and Zack O’Farrill at the famed Greenwich Village jazz club Fat Cat.

The orchestra includes some of the city’s finest young musicians who hail from all over the five boroughs. They perform classic works from the Latin jazz repertory as well as new works by members of the group.

ALJA is dedicated to preserving the music and heritage of big band Latin jazz, supporting its performance for new audiences, and educating young people in the understanding and performance of this important cultural treasure.
