ABOUT ABOUT

Join music therapist Ariel Weissberger to celebrate Hispanic heritage in an evening of unity and creativity with a supportive community of music enthusiasts. Using a variety of percussion instruments, we will explore the fascinating nuances of Latin rhythms and spice up the week with positive energy. Instruments will include congas, bongos, claves, cowbells and maracas. Rhythms will include Cha-cha-cha, Son, Bolero, and Mambo. Playing rhythmic music can help promote coordination, attention, stress reduction, mindfulness, connection, and self expression. Don’t miss out the opportunity to engage in this powerful communal experience. Proficiency in music not necessary to participate. All levels welcome.

Born and raised in Monterrey, Mexico, Ariel is a board certified music therapist and professional percussionist. He holds an MA in music therapy from New York University, and a BM with double major in music performance and music therapy from Berklee College of Music. He completed his clinical training at the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function, where he continued to work for several years. Ariel is the founder and director of Berko Music Therapy, a private music therapy practice that helps seniors, adults, and children cope with life challenges through creative music experiences. He has designed and developed music therapy programs for renown hospitals and institutions in the area, covering work with psychiatric care, physical and neurologic rehabilitation, epilepsy, Alzheimer's, HIV, and palliative care. Ariel is an adjunct professor at NYU's Music Therapy Master's program, as well as a frequent presenter in national conferences, where he often teaches workshops on the use of percussion, composition, technology, and creative music centered approaches in music therapy. Ariel is active in the NYC music scene, where he records, performs and collaborates with a variety of artists and musicians.
