This unique series of workshops serve as an outlet to all music educators interested in building their repertoire while getting and giving feedback to others in the field. The workshops will also provide materials and support for those looking for additional resources and communication with peers.
Our seminar/workshops are intentionally designed to meet in September, October, December and culminate with a special session on West African Drumming, Dance and Song in January. Participants will use the time in between to try new materials and gather their observations and experiences to share in this close knit and supportive setting.
Sheri is committed to guiding and mentoring educators while providing useful skills and strategies for class management. Participants will also learn a variety of songs from her vast and ever growing collection.
Sheri Gottlieb is Associate Director of Music Partners Program at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music and the Early Childhood Orff specialist at LREI (Little Red School House & Elisabeth Irwin HS) and co-director of their Recorder Ensemble. Her teaching career has given her opportunities to work with diverse populations in Public and Private schools, Head Start Programs and Community Music Schools. Her extensive experience as a mentor and workshop clinician include seminars for NYC Arts in Education Roundtable, MENC, NYSAIS and working with the DOE and the Harlem Success Academies developing music education programs. Se is co-author of “Melodic Weavings– A Soprano Recorder Approach for Teachers.” Sheri is a past president of the New York City Chapter American Orff Schulwerk Association and current board member. She has also served on the board of NYC Arts in Education Roundtable. Sheri is a trained hospice volunteer and a founding member of the Threshold Choir NYC. She sings at interfaith memorial services and for clients and caregivers by helping to honor, ease and give support through the gift of song
Special Guest on January 10: Amos Kwaku Gabia
Amos is a professional musician from Ghana, West Africa who made New York his home in 2013. Amos plays a variety of instruments including the djembe, dun dun, kpanlogo, flute, and asalato. Amos was a founding member of many successful groups and has led programs for travelers learning to drum in Ghana. He has toured Australia and frequently gives workshops for school groups and adults. Through the power of his drumming and the passion he has for music, Amos makes audiences and students fall in love with music from his homeland. Since arriving in New York, Amos has been teaching and performing in elementary, middle, and high schools and gives private lessons.
